Since its inception in 2010, the One Billion Literates Foundation has aimed at building resilient peri-urban and rural communities in Karnataka, India. We work for a future where children learn, and families thrive.
In 2010, our work began with building the capacity of women from communities, training them, equipping with the knowledge and resources, and deploying them in government schools to improve students’ English proficiency and learning outcomes.
From one school in one rural district, Anekal, outside Bengaluru in Karnataka, India, we expanded to 100+ schools. We believe that learning is a lifelong commitment and allows access to opportunities across all ages, from childhood to adulthood. Through our partner, One Billion Lives Foundation (OBLF India), we aim at leveraging the “multiplier effect” of literacy to empower people, enabling them to participate fully in society and gain access to opportunities and fulfill their aspirations.
OBLF USA and OBLF India are committed to creating platforms to bridge learning gaps, a level playing field regardless of region, and capacities to improve overall education outcomes in peri-urban and rural communities in India, and the global south.
At OBLF USA, we believe in global collaboration to foster local empowerment. Through strategic funding and programmatic partnerships with OBLF India, we work to support their efforts in Education & Training:
